I wanted to put something out there that expressed why I carry… and maybe more importantly, to refute the reasons that many of the people who despise what I do have. I may post more in depth on these issues later since concealed carry is one of the most important parts of my life these days.
I carry everyday, everywhere I can and I try to avoid places where I am not allowed to carry unless it is absolutely necessary that I go there. I do this for the reasons stated below, but most importantly, without people willing to sacrifice their personal comfort for the protection of society, society will ultimately degenerate. The sheep need the sheepdogs, not the other way around. I intend to be a sheepdog as long as I am able.
I Don’t Carry
I don’t carry a firearm to be a hero,
I carry because my children see me as their hero.
I don’t carry a firearm out of fear,
I carry because I never want to live in fear.
I don’t carry a firearm to feel power,
I carry because I don’t want to feel powerless to defend myself.
I don’t carry a firearm to intimidate others,
I carry because I don’t ever want to be intimidated by criminals.
I don’t carry a firearm because I feel inadequate,
I carry because, should I need to use it, I don’t ever want to be inadequate.
I don’t carry a firearm to boost my ego,
I carry because criminals carry guns to boost theirs.
I don’t carry a firearm to be a bigger man,
I carry because I want to be around to teach my son to be the better man.
I don’t carry a firearm because I think my life is worth more than anyone else’s,
I carry because those who love me think it is.
Until next time, be safe, keep your spare mag handy and your front sight visible.

this is dumb as shit and not intelligent in any way. It’s trying to be intelligent and thought provoking, but it just comes off as trite.

Well Chris, I am sorry you feel that way. By posting this comment, you now know that I am not afraid of criticism… however, one small thought on my part. You don’t sound like a Pulitzer prize winning author yourself, so where is you intelligent and thought provoking writing on anything, let alone why you choose freedom over tyranny and liberty over fear? I would love to see it.

Matt,
I thoroughly enjoyed “I Don’t Carry”. The content speaks volumes and voices many things that others of us only wish we could word so eloquently.
As for Chris, obviously the word “eloquently” is one that he has neither concept or useage of. Thankfully for him there are still those around him who spouse the “I Don’t Carry” attitude to protect him and wipe his nose when necessary.
Keep up the good work!

ps-
How about this one (actually not mine – I read it somewhere):
I don’t carry because I think I AM a policeman
I carry because I cannot CARRY a policeman
